In our series of Employee Spotlights, you get to meet our brilliant Unifii team members! This month we travel all the way to Dublin to meet Rachel, who has been in the Unifii family for a year and a half now - read more to hear about her journey.
Meet Rachel Hughes:
Hi I’m Rachel, and I’m a Consultant based in Unifii’s Dublin office. I’ve been with the company for a year and a half now.
How did you become interested in the industry and how did you stumble upon Unifii?
I graduated with a BSc in Neuroscience, after which I rushed into a job in auditing with no real clue of what I wanted to do. I was at a loose end until my dad, who works for ServiceNow, suggested I look into a job with a ServiceNow partner. I was sceptical at first, having no background in IT, but I had nothing to lose so I reached out. The first thing that stood out to me was how relaxed I felt during my interview, which is one of my favourite things about Unifii: everybody is so friendly and personable. As soon as I had those initial conversations, I knew I wanted to work with Unifii, regardless of my existing knowledge (or lack thereof) of ServiceNow and IT as a whole. I accepted a job offer in July 2020 and never looked back!
What do you enjoy the most about working at Unifii?
My favourite thing about working with Unifii is that no two days are the same. Some days I spend writing documentation for clients, others I spend analysing data and building out reports, and sometimes I get to do some configuration work which is super interesting. If there is something different you want to try, you are always encouraged to give it a shot.
What has been the most exciting project you have worked on in your time here?
I’m currently working on a project where I am acting as a contracted Business Analyst for a large corporation that are undergoing a migration of their services from one ServiceNow instance to another. It’s the first time I have worked on a project like this and there’s a lot of moving parts, so it definitely has its challenges, but I’m learning so much!
Did your working life change much as a result of COVID-19?
I started working with Unifii mid-pandemic, so ultimately my working life didn’t change much. I enjoy working from home as I am quite introverted; I find I get overstimulated and struggle to concentrate in a lively environment (and best believe the Irish office is lively!). However, I did get to visit the London office in December and thoroughly enjoyed my few days working from there. With the Dublin office growing, we are trying to make the effort to collaborate and work from a shared space occasionally, which is a nice way to break up the cycle of lone working without overwhelming myself.
How do you see yourself growing in the next few years?
I have been working towards my CIS Implementation ITBM exam and hope to have that completed this quarter. Ideally from there, I can become a point of contact for any ITBM related questions internally. I also would like to start learning to code so I can pull some more weight in the development space.
What do you do in your spare time?
I spend nearly all of my free time (and money!) with horses. I’m a huge fan of show jumping, and I ride competitively across the country. I currently have one horse who I have produced from a youngster, but I also take on the task of producing other horses for their owners. Someday I hope to make it onto a big screen, but I might have to win the lottery first!
